pumps
The
present invention relates the groundbreaking discovery of the crystal structure
of certain ion pumps recently published in Nature.
The
exchange of signals and matter between a cell and its surroundings is ensured by
ion pumps and receptors embedded in the cell membrane. It has now been
shown how the cells? ion pumps look and function. Ion pumps are essential to
both human and plant life at the cellular level. In the human body, the pumps
ensure energy to all signal and transport proces...

Circular RNA for inhibition of microRNA
<caseId>Mkt project-021</caseId>

MicroRNAs - these molecules control expression of
whole sets of genes involved in diseases, making them targets of high
interest. The invention is a Circular anti-miRs
that is capable of miRNA inhibition. These circular antimiRs are resistant to
miRNA destabilization, degradation and as a consequence of binding are the mRNA
targets relieved of their miRNA repression. Regulation of miRNA and thus also
regulation of mRNA/protein expression is key in many types of diseases including
Parkinson?s disease and

Scoliosis is a condition which displays a curvature of the spine, and
is typically found in young girls. Patients are usually treated by a growth rod,
which is a metal instrumentation system. This aims to straighten the spine, and
then holds it rigid while spinal fusion takes place. As young patients are still growing,
repeated surgical interventions are required every 6 months. With each surgery,
the growth rod is extended to account for the growth in the patient and then
re-tightened. This causes distress to the patient and increases the surgical
cost. There i...

Long-term zero-fouling poly (ethylene glycol) surfaces
<caseId>Mkt project-019</caseId>

The invention is a ultra-dense PEG coating for
applicaton on medical devices and similar. The coating would enable protein
resistance on the surface of the medical device. Material surfaces that are resistant to adhesion of biological
entities like proteins or cells provide an essential platform for a wide range
of bio-related applications. Current research has developed strategies for
various PEG-derivative coatings. These achieve a 70-90% reduction of biological
adhesion are are termed 'non-fouling' surfaces. This invention aims to improve
this and is seen as a 'zero-fouling' s...

Complete Prepacked Two Chamber PET-Carbonylation Kits Based on a Trap/Release of (11C)-Carbon Monoxide on a Solid Support
<caseId>Mkt project-016</caseId>

The group has discovered that oxygen availability in tissue
depends critically on capillary transit time heterogeneity (CTTH), and not, as
hitherto believed, only on local blood supply and blood oxygenation. This is a
fundamentally new insight and research breakthrough. As a result, altered
capillary morphology in ageing and disease can cause hypoxia and oxidative
stress overlooked by current diagnostic means. Techniques have been developed
across several diagnostic platforms, and the group is providing proof-of-concept
that CTTH is critically altered in diseases such as Canc...
